Creating a Calm Space - Our Top Tips for a Relaxing Bedroom

Now more than ever we need a calm and tranquil space to relax in our homes. Here are our top tips on how to create a peaceful bedroom, whether you are working from home and need functionality, or you are simply looking to zen out and relax in a tranquil environment.

 1. De-Clutter

I don’t know about you but having a clutter free room gives me the space to feel relaxed and content; Although there is a nice cosy feel to eclectic, maximalist living, there is something about a proper sort out and de-clutter that brings some peace of mind. Our bedrooms can easily become untidy, makeup sprawled across the dressing table, clothes in a pile on the chair (you know exactly what I’m talking about!) and something as simple as a bit of organisation, maybe sorting through a drawer can really help provide a calmer, stress free space.

2. Practice Minimalism

The minimalist approach to interior design considers simplifying, colour, light, space and design and is actually known to optimise our mental health. These elements can contribute to our mood and many builders are opting for a new style of design called neuro-architecture that involves an understanding of the principles of neuro science and how combined with architecture, can benefit a persons wellbeing.

When it comes to Interiors, the same understanding is applied; clutter can cause stress, while darker colours can lower your mood and energy.  Together, your space could be making you feel cramped and irritated.

3. Use Soft Lighting

Bright, overpowering light can cause your body clock to be off balance as well and too much visual noise being a headache. Instead of relying on one main ceiling light, using dimmer lighting such as lamps, fairy lights and mood lighting like candles can make for a more relaxing feel to a space and is less overbearing.

 4. Introduce Plants to your Space

It is no secret that having plants in a space (real or faux) can make you feel more at one with nature, if you live in a built up area or city, it is great to incorporate some greenery into your home. Biophilic design does just that, it is the idea that a home should connect more with natural world, through direct and indirect use of natural elements. Biophilic design can be used in small doses such as having plants around and using natural materials like stone and wood. Having Biophilic design in your home is thought to reduce stress, enhance creativity and clarity of thought. We adore the latest minimal, earthy vibes that are on-trend right now! So why not dive into the world of Biophilic design!

 5. Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a holistic relaxation practice where essential oils are used to create a nice aroma when diffused into the air. Oil diffusers are an organic way to add natural scents to a room

The benefits of aromatherapy are that it can aid in pain management, improve sleep quality (so great for a bedroom environment) and also is great for treating headaches and migraines.
